The Bangladesh Inland Waterways (passenger carriers’) Association, a platform of launch owners, declared halt of launch services across the country from Saturday afternoon (November 5).
Countrywide launch service halted for ‘Nada’
The association came up with the decision due to the persistent inclement weather created by the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Association’s chief advisor M Golam Kibria Tipu confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
He further said the services will be resumed whenever the weather becomes normal.
A special bulletin by the Bangladesh meteorological department said that the depression, named Nada, over West-Central Bay and adjoining area has moved east-northeastwards and intensified into a deep depression over Northwest Bay and adjoining area.
It was centered about 630 kms West-Southwest of Chittagong port, 595 kms West-Southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 500 kms Southwest of Mongla port and 495 kms Southwest of Payra port at 12:00 pm on Saturday (November 5).
The deep depression is likely to intensify further and move in a North-Northeasterly direction and may cross Barisal-Chittagong coast by Sunday morning (November 6), the bulletin added.
Meanwhile, maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local warning signal no. 4 lowering local cautionary signal no. 3.
