Depression in Bay triggers drizzle, city life disrupted
It drizzles throughout the day due to the influence of depression in the Bay of Bengal that caused immense sufferings to city commuter on Saturday.
The light rain started falling in the early hours of Saturday and was continuing till filing of the report in the evening.
The persistent drizzle caused long tailbacks on some city streets though it was the weekend. Commuters and private office-goers faced problems in reaching their destinations for lack of transport.
Many said rickshaw and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers charged them excessive fares, taking advantage of the bad weather.
Roads and lanes adjacent to under-construction Mouchak-Moghbazar flyover in the capital turned muddy and slippery due to the rain, intensifying the pedestrians’ woes.
According to officials at the Met Office, the rain will continue till Sunday. It recorded 5 mm rain in the capital in the last 24 hours till 3pm on Saturday while it recorded the highest 94 mm rain in Patuakhali.
Meanwhile, the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant cautionary signal No. 4 as a deep convection is moving over the North Bay.
The depression over west-central bay and adjoining area moved east-northeastwards and intensified into deep depression over northwest bay and adjoining area.
